EveryTongue.com - Film Review Information on foreign language films The English movies produced by Hollywood are contributing to the extinction of small languages. What can we do? |
Thumbs up for The Passion of the Christ because almost no one can understand it.
Who would have thought that a movie about the crucifixion of Christ would make the cover of Newsweek Magazine and captivate audiences worldwide. "The Passion of the Christ" is a liberating film for non-English speakers around the world. While many Americans have criticized the film for using the original language of Aramaic this is a great thing for non-English speakers. For the first time in a long time a major release film will be in subtitles for ALL who see it. (With the exception of the small number of the world's Aramaic speakers and even then I would guess the accent of the actors speaking in a language they do not know is hard to understand.)
So EveryTongue.com gives this film "thumbs up" because the film can be quickly translated into other languages and thus the whole world gets to watch the film in the way it was intended by the producer. The world's English speakers will understand for a change what it is like to have to read subtitles.
